Tui Na

We had a deal on Tui Na, so a lot of people recently come for Tui Na. A lot more of them surprisingly find this is something completely new: it’s not a common massage they had before in different places. Yes, it’s completely different. Instead of explaining to everyone repeatedly, we’d like to write something on this topic today.

-What is Tui Na?

According to Wekipedia, Tui na or tuina pronounced (tōō•ē nä) (Chinese: 推拏 or 推拿; pinyin: tuī ná), is a form of Chinese manipulative therapy often used in conjunction with acupuncture, moxibustion, fire cupping, Chinese herbalism, t’ai chi, and qigong. Tui na is a hands-on body treatment that uses Chinese taoist and martial arts principles in an effort to bring the eight principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) into balance. The practitioner may brush, knead, roll/press, and rub the areas between each of the joints, known as the eight gates, to attempt to open the body’s defensive (wei) chi and get the energy moving in the meridians and the muscles. The practitioner can then use range of motion, traction, andmassage, with the stimulation of acupressure points. These techniques are claimed to aid in the treatment of both acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions, as well as many non-musculoskeletal conditions.

The above explanation is quite correct. Tui Na is a part of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM); it’s a requested course in TCM Universities, and used in TCM hospitals in China. It’s performed under the guidance of TCM fundemental theory, focuses on meridian and acupoints, and requires in-depth force from practitioner to patients’ muscle layer, even deeper part of the body. In China, when you go to hospitals, you find Department of Tui Na. For people with different symptoms will get Tui Na differently based on dignosis. Hardly two people will get the same Tuina. Also you won’t be asked to take off all your clothes since you’re in a public place, also because the manipulation is requested to deep enough so there’s no need to take of clothes. When having Tui Na, special herbal oil killing the pain can be used, but never just oil or aroma oil.

Since focuses on Meridians, Tui Na also can be used as a way of relaxation together with Yangsheng effect.

To learn Tui Na, people should firstly learn basic TCM knowledge since it’s based on TCM philosophy. Secondly, people should train themselves, such as some martial arts and certain techniques, to enable their manipulation going deep to patients’ body. Normally it takes quite long time. Mostly in China, male are working on this as a profession, for it takes too much energy. However, female with practice can be able to work on it as well.

– Difference between Tui Na and Massage

Tui Na is from Chinese culture, history record can be found in Huang Di Nei Jing, written in around 700 B.C. It’s performed under the guidance of TCM fundamental theory, focusing on meridians and acupoints. There’s no need to take off all clothes and without oil.

Massage is from different countries with different techniques. Currently in the market in Stockholm, there’re Swedish Massage, Thai Massage, India Massage, and so on. They have different theoretical philosophies, and mostly oil is used.
